Los Angeles school district administrators move to replace the entire staff of the Miramonte Elementary School after two veteran teachers were arrested for victimizing students. NBC's Mike Taibbi reports.

By Sevil Omer, msnbc.com

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies on Wednesday rushed to dispel rumors among Latino families that they would be deported if they come forward with information about child sexual abuse allegations at Miramonte Elementary School, where two teachers have been arrested.

"We've seen a reluctance among families to come forward on the advice of lawyers," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Dan Scott told msnbc.com. "The sheriff has assured the community that a person’s legal status will not be questioned."

But many remain silent.

"People are afraid to talk. They are confused. They are scared," Jessica Dominguez, a Los Angeles lawyer who specializes in immigration cases, told msnbc.com. "Parents are worrying that if they speak out to authorities they will be deported, because some of them are undocumented."

Since I did not see this article on Newsvine I decided to start this thread because of all of the daggers being thrown at the victims with such pin point precision, rather than at the perpetrators.

My point of view is going to come from a different perspective from many of the posters on this thread. In my own opinion, I think that the reason for the rampant sexual abuses upon the young children in this particular school may be due to the fact that there are undocumented students attending there. The offenders are using that fact to victimize innocent children in the hope that they nor their parents will tell.

Now, you can complain about their legal status, and rightfully so. But, do you think for a minute that these disgusting sex offenders did not or would not or will not target legal citizens if there were no undocumented ones available? Instead of "blaming the victim"  (defenseless children),  Why not go after the perps with as much venom as some of you sprew against these children?  These teachers who have done these gruesome and despicable acts are "legal citizens" and in my opinion are no better than the law breaking illegals they target. We need an effective and humane immigration law, not a barbaric one. So write  or call your Senators and Congressmen and ask them to sit down and do some serious work on Immigration Reform  for all immigrants and stop sitting on their hands for political gain, I did.

Fear incites defensiveness. Fear comes from the knowledge that what the guilty have done is wrong. The extreme deflection of the guilty is directly proportional to their desperation for what they have done.

The thought of these kids being illegal did not even enter my mind. The fact itself is that these kids were victimized. If the teachers used that info for his own benefit, then that makes it all the more disgusting.

I hope these kids and their families get the help they will need and the justice they deserve.

I am always a sucker for 'type your headline here' articles.

As a former teacher I am so disgusted that this abuse still goes on in schools. It sickens me to see that reports of this nature get swept under the rug to avoid embarrassment for the school.

More jail time is needed for those who prey on children. It will never stop this from happening but we could at least keep these perpetrators in jail for a lot longer.

The rants that I have seen on other threads have been "if these illegals didn't come here, didn't commit the crime of invading our country, maybe this would not have happened to them" That statement sickens me. Then you hear the effete, Anchor babies, deport all of the illegals, they are taking our jobs, over running our schools, you know the same old, same old.

These people who are so racists that they can not and will not see the horribleness of child abuse period, let alone by our own citizens. They have such tunnel vision that they can not come up with one constructive idea as to how to solve the problem of child abuse in our country nor how to fix our broken immigration system. This type of abuse happens to American kids too, in schools, at home, in sports, in foster care, in their own communities and churches. It is a scourge that needs to be addressed, but I don't see any BIG PUSH to put a stop to it. Where is a "Save Our Children from Abuse" Initiative from any organization, political or religious or non-profit or grass roots?

All I here is the sprewing of hatred, that ought to fix everything. (sarc)
